Live abroad on the cheap?

I stumbled upon this great post and thought I would share it for those interested in traveling abroad.  It was definitely an interesting read for me since I keep going back and forth between traveling abroad or traveling the country.  Which do I do first?

Anyway, here’s the article…..let me know what you think.

Quit Your Job And Live Abroad: Places so cheap you might not need to work.

I love how each location has an estimated monthly budget in both dollars and the currency of the location, and that it’s broken down by expense.

Chiang Mai and Portugal are two places that I keep feeling drawn to as my first destination for travel abroad so I was happy to see them both on this list.

Several things factor into why these two destinations interest me.  From what I have found in my research, they both are affordable, have a wonderful climate and are female traveler friendly.

That makes them A Okay in my book.

I am itching to get out of here like you can’t believe.  I wish all the starts would align and the cosmic energy around me would be enough to make this all happen now.

Patience Cheli…..patience.  It will happen, I am determined.

I had not looked at your site in a while. I assumed you were on the road already. Coming up on 3 years for me, and like most full timers, I wish I had done it sooner.

I do not know you at all, but you need a kick in the rear to get going. Not setting a drop dead date was a mistake. You have been at this for almost 2 years and you are still telling yourself, patience. Set a date, sell what you can by then, and give the rest away. You are going to make mistakes, but so what.
Get going. You are 40 something now. I do not want to read your blog in a while and have you say you are a 50 something getting ready to Run Away From Home.

Get out here, the water is great.

–Mike, a 50 something full timer.

Ok let me start off by saying, you are the best and thank you. Getting a kick in the ass like that by a stranger is awesome!

Now, I happy to say (and proud) that I have finally picked a date and have set plans!!!!! I also recently got a kick in the ass by my friend and plans have really been moving along since. I’m actually working on a post about my recent change of events that will be up soon. So keep an eye out!

If you hate the full time lifestyle, you can always go get an apartment and fill it with ‘stuff’ again, and return to 9-5.
You sound like you have the itch to do this, I wish you had someone close to you to push you out of the nest.

    • Cheli says:

Yes, that is true. However, I don’t see that ever happening!!!! I can’t imagine ever wanting to go back to the 9-5 hell and a place full of stuff. But it is there if for some reason I hit my head and decide I want it again. hahaha
