In case anyone is interested (c’mon you know you are) my favorite season is Fall and my favorite holiday ever is Halloween!!!!!!
Now for those who don’t know me, most of my life I have been terrified of scary movies and haunted houses.
I was traumatized as a child by my father who scared me after a family movie night of watching Friday the 13th. Looking back at the incident it was pretty funny, but at the age of 11 or 12 it wasn’t so funny. So ever since, I’ve had a fear of anything horror. We’re talking about 35 years of fear here. Up until about three years ago I would never even set foot in a haunted house OR watch a scary movie.
I know, this makes my love of Halloween hard to understand.
I have to give credit to my ex boyfriend for getting me over my fear of anything horror. Sadly, we recently broke up after three years of being together but that’s another story. Anyway, now I’m addicted to horror movies. I watch them all and love them.
Spooky, horror, gore, possession…..it doesn’t matter, I’ll watch it.
Not only do I watch every horror movie I can get my hands on, I also work at a haunted house. I know right? Makes no sense. But yup, this is my second season as an actor at Barrett’s Haunted Mansion and I couldn’t possibly have more fun then when I’m haunting. I get paid to scare the crap out of people, what’s better than that? Nothing!
Once I hit the road and travel, I will definitely be coming back to New England every October to continue haunting.
Here’s a couple of pictures I thought I would share with you.
This is me from a couple weekends ago. This is a character where I’m in a hidden spot and pop out as customers come through my room. So it’s more of a surprise scare then a creepy gore scare. It’s super effective and I love it. The best is when you scare someone so good that you have to quickly turn around so you don’t laugh in their face. Although I’m much better at keeping a straight face this year then I was last year.
Here are a couple of my characters from last year.
This first one is “Persephone“, she’s an angry and hungry vampire. I had really cool fangs that were molded to my teeth but don’t have a picture of that.
This is “Beartrice“, the angry teddy bear. After this picture was taken I had added a ton of blood to the teddy bear that I held but can’t find a picture at the moment. I know I have a picture so I’ll find it and update here. It was much cooler though.
And here we have “Vooronica“, the human voodoo doll. I wish I had a picture of the full costume because I made life size push pins that I had sticking out of the top of my head and out of a giant plush heart I attached to my chest. I seem to be on a roll here with not having the pictures I want on hand but you get the idea.
I’ll share a tip with you if you are ever in the market for life size push pins. I know this is in high demand and you are all sitting on the edge of your seat for details.
So I bought those thin wooden skewers from the supermarket that you use for shishkabobs and spray painted them a shiny silver. Then I bought beer pong balls, you can get them in most convenient stores. I spray painted some red and some black. After the balls were dry I poked a hole in one side and then pushed the skewer (flat end, not the pointy end) into the hole until it hit the other side of the ball and it was snug enough that I didn’t even need glue or anything. Viola! Life size push pins. I will need to find a picture to post here because they came out very cool.
Hmmmm now I’m thinking that I should put some craft tutorials on here as well, I’m a big crafter. But now I’m getting off topic.
Oh and now let me introduce “Mr. Von Bones“, he loves to drive around with me and he’s a great conversationalist. He usually hangs with me in my living room or kitchen but this season he’s hanging at my sisters house. My niece is very excited, my sister not so much.
